Dr. Edwin Hernandez is a serial entrepreneur, inventor, and technology leader — the founder of EGLA Corp, a technology company that develops its own intellectual property and serves as a platform where other innovators build ventures at the EGLAVATOR, his technology incubator and accelerator in Boca Raton, FL. The EGLAVATOR assists and invests in early-stage technology companies, offering funding advice, go-to-market strategy, intellectual property guidance, and hands-on execution support.

As a technology leader, Dr. Hernandez has worked with engineering and business teams since his days at Motorola and Microsoft. Through his intellectual property portfolio, he and his team have reached licensing agreements covering Motorola, Google, Apple, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, DISH Wireless, Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson, Microsoft, Comcast, and other major technology companies. Dr. Hernandez earned a B.S. in Electronics Engineering from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology, and an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Florida. He is a named inventor on 17 issued U.S. patents and 5 European patents. He has provided technical expert witness services in 50+ intellectual property cases, including 15+ inter partes reviews (IPRs), and four testimonies at trial, Daubert hearings, and numerous depositions. He was a Fulbright Scholar and has twice served as a judge for the Mobile World Congress. He is a Microsoft and Motorola alumnus, a member of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) at Florida Atlantic University, and producer of his own technology podcast, TECHEDTV.

Developed an automated examination tool to assist with grading. Supported the class’s J2ME/J2SE requirements and Motorola smartphone development, and assisted with the Motorola-sponsored “killer application” competition.

Investigated the effects of handoff and network mobility at varying vehicular speeds using mobile network simulation and emulation to study Mobile-IP and Layer-2/3 mobility protocols. Developed RAMON (Rapid Mobile Network Emulator), a device that emulates network-layer mobility and programmatically replicates mobility conditions across signal strength, packet delay, bit-error rate, and speed. RAMON used real 802.11b access points, omnidirectional antennas, embedded computers (e.g., PC-104), and custom-built control circuitry, with a .NET interface to automatically generate emulated network topologies. Explored routing protocols and IP tunnels in depth, along with low-level network device driver adjustments, and conducted extensive simulation work in ns-2.

Applied fuzzy logic to network management, focusing on how adaptive sampling could reduce captured statistics without losing important network behavior.
