A Good heart

What is a good heart? Most people are inherently good

A great question, how do you define a good heart? People around the world are dedicating everyday to many activities, some work privately, some own a business, others work for government or an NGO.  We all have something to do, we are all busy, but somehow some dedicate some time to help others without expecting anything but God’s mercy. In my experience, every time I take a flight to Honduras I see many americans in the plane coming from multiple states in the US and in a great majority with a Christian background. These americans usually are volunteering to build houses,  help others, some are medical doctors, and many come to do great things that address many issues with the youth and in general many needs of the 80% of Hondurans living under poverty.

In Youtube many videos are found when you choose the keyword “Honduras Mission Trips.” However, the one below caught my eye and is a Later Day Saints (LDS) trip made to Honduras. As you know, I am Catholic, but what they do for their neighbors reflect Jesus’ call on us. Help and solidarity to others brothers and sisters, which is great as long as is done with kindness.

I cannot conclude clearly, whether these missions are bringing kind  people with a great heart or not,  but overall,  all the facts I see  show a great degree of  kindness. Helping others is  their main objective.  Something else you can see from hese people mission trips is having  plain modesty.  They dress code shows a  humble attire and all their behavior shows  practical ways of life that  in many ways are reflected in where they stay and what they eat. These mission goers pick affordable food, water, and it is interesting  how they handle their stay in Honduras, usually sleeping on not so comfortable suites. In many other cases, they bring more to share with those who might have nothing to eat.

Many missioners stay in places and locations that are not equipped for a US-living standard.  It’s appropriate to mention a documentary I saw, taking place in Guatemala, country with a similar reality as Honduras. In this documentary,  four millennial stay in Guatemala living with $1 per day, just as many Guatemalans do. I recommend you take your time to watch it and learn more about poverty and how people even being that poor, is kind and loving.

As such, we can clearly see how important is to compare what a mission trip to Honduras requires and how it compares to any act of kindness you may do to others.

In my opinion, only those with a good heart can clearly be able to perform such an act of kindness like this.  Compassion is a key element displayed by a good heart.  People with a good heart are everywhere, people with bad hearts are also there. My advice is find ways to differentiate both and choose good-hearted people to be your friends, be your spouses, and even those who have lost hope, help them, as they may see God thru you.

The Pope, IMHO, ia person with a great heart, even President Obama stated that in 2015. Of course, Obama in my opinion is a president with a great heart has had to deal with a congress with many racial issues and politically biassed.

How would you identify a person with a bad heart? I would identify them by simply looking at their way of life? Are they kind with animals or with other people? As a rule of thumb, distrust anyone who doesn’t like animals.  Also, do they care for others without return?  In general a good heart will be kind and will be able to understand the terms of forgiveness, honesty, transparency, modesty, being humble, and overall put God first to themselves in all decisions made in their lives.  Many women dress inappropriately, showing way too much skin, just to get men’s attention and sexually arouse them without any particular agenda or with a pre-defined agenda. This is not right as they might still look great without being provocative.

Such women reflect great issues in their soul, specially if they call themselves Christian or Catholic.

Our bible even indicates what a good heart is:

“The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. – Matthew 12:35 ”

” Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  — Phillipians 4:8 “

and also about a wicked heart:

Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.” — 1 Peter 2:!6

30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;” Romans 1:30

“14who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, 15 whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways. Proverbs 2:14-15″

If you identify a person that has no remorse for doing evil, for being arrogant and boastful, and many of those that use freedom to cover up for evil. Be aware!

Remember that many people in countries like Honduras need people with good heart, not because many in Honduras even having a great heart are likely to be poor and help mildly or cannot help much.

I conclude by giving Thanks for all american christians or not, and other countries,  who dedicate their time to come to countries like Honduras and help. Thank you, God will see your heart and will bless you more!!!
