Updates – Lucky Me

Hi, this week has been really busy…I went to work on Monday and ran into some GPS-related concerns, issues and decisions to be made.. luckly enough, I went to Sprint’s Application Developer Conference held at the Westin Diplomat in Hallandale Beach, FL. I met quite a few interesting folks from Sprint and the industry…. while at Sun’s breakout session on J2ME… they raffled an Ultra sparc 20, which pretty much is an Opteron 1.8 GHz with 1GB of RAM…. guess who won it, yes ME… moi, it was great, I carried the big box to my car. Even though, the parking garage at the Nikki Marina did not honor my attendee badge, I was very happy. I’ve been setting it up to work with the default Solaris OS, and I am blogging from my JAVA Desktop Environment. I think it’s cool, I am not that familiar with Solaris system admin, I was familiar but back when it was SunOS 4.1…. late 1996-1997 timeframe…. yeap, about 10 yrs. Amazingly enough, This machine is not as noisy as my other AMD Athlon 3000+ w/ 1GB of RAM which has been my PC for the last 9-12 months.

This reminds me that if you are a J2ME developer, YOU MUST install Netbeans from this site in your machine, it will truly benefit your J2ME development portfolio, specially if you are writting a network app from scratch….. gamers?? maybe not that great, but I will have to ask around if gamers get something out of it. I will test it myself in the next couple of days.

Well, I am enjoying this machine and will be setting up some test servers, and do some interesting testing on it… I just need to get a UPS for my Windows Desktop, my linux machine, and my Ultra Sparc 20…. Wow lots of machines.

Ohhh BTW, in my way home after lunch at “Aroma Cafe” w/ a co-worker, I went to Guitar Center down there in Hallandale. Crap, I felt in love with a Gibson … what a great guitar, price-tag though $600-something, obviously that guitar does not deserve to have a cheap ass Amp, so I either need to get a Fender 60-100W or even better a Marshall.
